How to Earn Money on YouTube with Affiliate Marketing — 7 Practical Tips
– I haven't met anybody that is anywhere near our results in affiliate marketing. If you look at our process of doing it, you gotta just press record. – And I have a question about the different styles
of using affiliate links. So one style was very simple like, you know, by the
Canon M50, Amazon link. And there's a style that like Vanessa Lau uses where it says, "Here's my favorite camera,"
and there's an Amazon link. but she doesn't tell
you which camera it is, you have to click the link to find out. And then there's a style that you use, which is like kids.co and then the site that you just mentioned with all the tools. So I'm wondering which
of these different styles would you recommend? What are the pros and cons of goo…
Like, like Vanessa's method? I imagine that the advantage of that is that you get the cookie on, you get the Amazon cookie just for finding out which camera it is. So I would appreciate a little bit of thoughts as I'm just getting started with affiliate marketing in
the next couple of months. – I don't think any of those
methods is wrong for one. I think it'd be interesting
in experimenting. I would say that, I think media, we have
definitely kind of tapped into doing affiliate marketing at a pretty world-class level.
I mean, just to look at,
and I haven't looked at, I, and I haven't looked at (indistinct) beginning of our conference. We are at just this month at something like 117,000 clicks and have earned 14,000 in profit just this month, pretty decent. So let's say last month we
did something like $34,189. And we can also see, of course a lot of that has to do
with camera and photography, musical instruments, and you
can see how it breaks down and this is the backend. You know, friends we don't not only just have the clicks here, but the amount of ordered items. The conversion rate 5.61. That I think is a big key
in answer to your question because the conversion
rate is not necessarily… It has to do maybe with
how valuable the video is and thinking through the
entire customer journey in affiliate marketing if that makes sense because I think what's
happened at think media a couple summarized principles is, I think part of it's trust.
Again, affiliate marketing for us is not just like a cash grab. It's understanding how to monetize truly valuable information to say, "Hey, here's a comparison of two things "and this is really why we
think this is the better option, "choice is yours." But people have built trust
with us over the years and I've said, "Man, when it's
exactly, that's the goal." It's exactly as Sean
described or Omar subscribed or Nolan described.
And I feel like I've invested my money in something that's good, and of course affiliate marketing doesn't
make the product costs anymore. So it's such a great way
to earn money as a creator. But to maybe answer your
question more specifically we've bolted on, I think
the think media tools page that we just give an example, that's something eventually
everybody should do because eventually as
an online entrepreneur, you should have what tools
you use on your website.
Like think about it, right? Eventually you're gonna
probably pick a place where you're gonna be
building your email list. Eventually you're gonna pick … I mean, for us, it's crazy
how many different … I mean, we have at this stage in business slack and monday.com and we use Epidemic
music and we use Musicbed and we use Kajabi and
we also use Thinkific and we also use a text message service, I forget what it's called. And we also use vidIQ. And so eventually there's
just so many different tools. By summarizing where those all are, you can share it quickly like I just did and if people want an example
go to fig media tools. It's an example of exactly
what you said in regards. These of course are our affiliate
links and it's taken …
I wanna encourage you,
it's taken years, right? To build this all up and so start simple. In regards to Vanessa's method, yes, maybe you get the click, but my guess is a couple of things. I don't think she takes like
Amazon affiliate marketing anywhere near as serious as we do because she's built such
a profitable coaching and even coarse business
helping people with Instagram and build their businesses. And most…
I haven't met
anybody that is anywhere near our results in affiliate marketing. So I do think if I was to lean, not just because it's kind of our process. If you look at our process of doing it, it's sort of a linear flow of super-valuable search based
video, answering a question and giving what we believe to be the most ethical solid, helpful answer. And then clearly letting
people find that answer in the description, so things like verbal call to
actions to let people know. And so there are links in the
description to these products maybe even knowing ahead of
time before you press record. And right now webcams are kind of sold out and kind of hard to find. And so I've actually linked
a couple different resources in the description down below. So you can check B&H
photo, Amazon and eBay which may be the only place that you can get this webcam right now.
That is just very clear
instructions to the viewer to be able to now go search
that out, click those links and if they were to click
Amazon B&H and eBay, that cookie would be on all
three sites in regards to or on that computer for all three sites, in regards to whatever purchases they make for whatever the cookie timeframe is. So I'm not sure if I
answered your question good, but what are your thoughts on that end? – The idea of building
your, that site of your own, I think that is probably a good idea also to show your viewers that you are serious, that you do evaluate all
these different products and I guess is that would
give a good impression to somebody that, oh, he doesn't
only push this one product, but he actually has intelligent views about all these different things.
So I'm inspired to put together that list and I think it doesn't
have to be complicated. I think I can just put
it on my WordPress site. It could just be a page. Here are the tools that I use when the file opens, right? – 100% and then it becomes both. You can have, even that
link in your description all the time to just people
could maybe stumble on it. You could have this specific video with a specific call to action like you're doing here talking about maybe M50 versus Canon or the Camcorders, so you have the M50 link
or a Zoom Affiliate Link. Does Zoom have an affiliate program? – Used to have it but I think they quit it during the current situation.
– Yeah, that makes sense. That that's something that
we haven't really promoted. So, you know, whatever it is, whether it could be StreamYard or something else you talk about, but then the power of
having those clear URLs or something clear you
could share on a live stream is exactly thinkmediatools.com. It also gives you the
chance to maybe go live, answer Q&A, or even share on social. Like you could send a tweet out that, that website stands alone. So at the end of the
day, I loved the question because you brought up a
couple of different strategies and that is what we should
all kind of be developing. At some point we might
find our secret source, the best strategy for us, but my kind of summary
answer is do all of them.
I mean, it… Or do the
best one for the context of the content you're
creating, you know what I mean? You never, as this is a great tip too, you usually in any one video, you only want one call to action though and that's kind of a
good online marketing. Like if you tell people to go four places, they're going to go nowhere because like, I can't, how
can I go in four directions? Is it North, South, East, or West? So when thinking about what
strategy you're going to use in regards to a call to action, to an affiliate link or whatever, I would encourage always
research before you press record and plan your video
before you press record, to think through the whole process.
As we get better and creating our videos, it's actually thinking
through the whole thing of how does this all align? How has this all congruent? So that the viewer… It's
one of those things where once you're done recording, you're editing or the video is coming out and you're like, "Shoot!
I should have said, "I've done that a million times. "Wait a minute, like, I
could have been a lot… "I didn't make that very
easy for the viewer?" And I'm sure that everybody
watching this can maybe relate where you look back and you're like, "Shoot! What if I would've
given a call to action?" One of the things that
I find so fascinating is I remember I used to, I
was like flipping watches and I looked it like, these Nixon Watches, like a watch like this.
And I would see a watch
like this video right here, where this person just
shows off this watch and okay, it looks like they
might have an affiliate link. Nope, they don't, it's not
an affiliate link to eBay and it doesn't link to anything. And so this particular video by just kind of reviewing
a watch as 86,000 views and potentially no affiliate
link in the description. So one, there's the idea of
the chance that you always could put it in affiliate
link in the description and that could be at least
an opportunity for some.
But the second level is, if you don't give an
actual call to action, then chances are no one's
gonna find that link, like a very small percentage. And once the video is out
and once it has 81,656 views, you might look back on
an old video and be like, "Dang! I could be having some
passive income right now." But hopefully that becomes a lesson and even watching this coffee with candle we think through to be like,
"Man, on that next one, "I would just want to make
sure that my messaging, "my call to actions, the
things I include in the video, "the verbal call to actions
I give, the description. "I wanna make that, "I wanna remove friction
as best as possible "and just make sure I'm clear and helpful "and I serve the viewer "and I let them know about
a summary of show notes "and links in the
description or whatever." because if you don't give
that verbal call to action, then chances are you're
not gonna ever make any affiliate sales or
you gonna make very few.

practical tip for everybody. – Are you curious about
